Call for Artists
As leaders in public transportation for the Spokane region, Spokane Transit Authority strives to better connect people and places. Community involvement is one of STA’s core values, and we seek to inspire pride in our region, reward innovation, and foster community growth and vitality. In order to further this goal, STA strives to support local artists and musicians by utilizing the Plaza and other STA properties as spaces for creativity and innovation. By featuring the arts, STA has the unique opportunity to further strengthen our community by enriching the hearts and minds of the individuals we serve.
During the month of June, STA and The Arc of Spokane collaborated to organize the “Art is for Everyone” gallery in the Plaza Rotunda, which showcased the work of talented artists with developmental disabilities. While we intend to continue to participate in First Friday events with similar gallery shows, we hope to expand our engagement with local artists, musicians, and charities by hosting multiple art shows, live performances, and events throughout the year both in the rotunda and the main floor of the Plaza.
In order to feature more work by and for our community members, STA is calling for art submissions from local artists. Our hope is to bring together both artists with and without developmental disabilities to highlight the spirit of inclusion within the arts and our community.
Submissions should be appropriate for all ages (no images of obscene violence, nudity, drug use, etc.) and include the following:
- Resume or artist bio
- Dimensions and number of pieces to be displayed
- A brief artist statement about works submitted
- Link to online portfolio, if available, or deliver CD of art or audio CD to STA Communications, c/o Peggy McManus, 1230 W. Boone Avenue, Spokane, WA 99201
If you are interested in submitting artwork, doing a live performance, or partnering with STA for community outreach or charity events at The Plaza, contact PMcmanus@SpokaneTransit.com.
