Assistant Transit Planner

Job Summary

Spokane Transit Authority’s Planning Division is looking to onboard a new Assistant Transit Planner whose goal is to improve mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities by removing barriers to transportation service and expanding transportation mobility options within the Spokane Community. The role is responsible for a variety of planning related activities which includes coordinating STA’s Section5310 program, STA’s Title VI plan as well as  develop and administer grants. To be successful you will need to exercise independent judgement within these functions while learning related federal and state laws/regulations.

Examples of Duties

  • Prepare staff reports, technical documentation, planning guidelines to support the functions of the Department
  • Research, evaluate and recommend to the Principal Planner, programs and courses of action for transit planning; data collection and analysis; and grant preparation and administration.
  • Support compliance reporting related to grant performance, Title VI of the US Civil Rights Act, internal policies and procedures, and other local, state and federal requirements
  • Analyze demographic, employment, building permit, comprehensive planning and other data and information. Represent data using GIS program.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in transportation or urban planning, geography, business or public administration, engineering or a related field, and six months of work experience in a related field. Work experience may include internships. A relevant Master’s degree or graduate level course work may be substituted for the required work experience.
