Operations Technology Specialist

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operation Technology Manager, the Operations Technology Specialist is responsible for the preparation, coordination, implementation, evaluation, maintenance, and related functions of automated Fixed Route applications on in-house computer system for operations purposes.  This includes an understanding of the daily tasks that support work assignments, next day scheduling, payroll, dispatch, and real-time fleet operational management and communication. The incumbent must have strong interpersonal and communications skills as s/he will work directly with users and vendors to resolve operational problems and define enhancements to software applications and communications systems.  Due to the real time nature of these applications, the position requires a commitment and ability to provide occasional support on short notice whenever it is required, day or night, any day of the week. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Familiar with transit technologies such as Trapeze, Transit Master or similar
  • Understands the fundamentals of relational databases
  • Ability to write SQL queries and statements
  • Ability to troubleshoot software issues and propose and develop solutions interdependently
  • Ability to test vendor solutions
  • Experience with Visual Basic
  • Tactful collaborator

Examples of Duties

  • Install, maintain, and support operation of dispatch, timekeeping, timesheet processing, work force management, yard management and other related software applications for the daily operations of Fixed Route services.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot pay time calculation problems for both Fixed Route and Paratransit departments and make necessary adjustments to pay rules.
  • Install, maintain, and support operation of software applications that provide real-time tracking operations of Fixed Route fleet.
  • Participate in the planning and integration of communications center.
  • Oversee the continued development of Supervisors to keep them up-to-date with new technology introduced during annual software releases.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or related field and one year of related transit experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Experience with SQL query writing required. Extensive Experience within the Microsoft Office environment, particularly Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Word, and Excel. Understanding of TM or other ERP systems. Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Project preferred. Ability to quickly learn new software programs.
