May 2017 Service Revisions
Based on years of input from citizens and technical preparation, the Spokane Transit Board of Directors approved a plan that aims to maintain the existing transit system while adding more resources where needed to improve service levels throughout the region. The STA Moving Forward plan includes more than 25 projects to provide more and better transit service throughout the region.
Voters within Spokane’s Public Transportation Benefit Area (PTBA) have approved Proposition 1 to fund Spokane Transit’s (STA) 10-year plan to maintain, improve and expand public transit service as the region grows. More information on Proposition 1 can be found here. STA will begin implementing the first of the new projects in May 2017 – about one month after the first 0.1% rate increase takes effect.
According to the STA Moving Forward plan, following changes are planned to go into effect in May 2017 at the regular service change:
- Extend Saturday night service system-wide
- More frequent weekend service on Wellesley Avenue in North Spokane
- Add more trips and buses to Airway Heights during busy travel times (Phase 1 – Weekends)
- Introduce service between Spokane Valley Mall and Greenacres on Indiana Avenue (Phase 1 – weekdays only)
A public hearing on the May 2017 Service Revisions – Draft Recommendation was held to receive public testimony at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, in the Spokane Transit Authority (STA) Boardroom, 1230 W. Boone Ave, Spokane, Washington, 99201. More information on the public hearing can be found here.

This proposal also contains other individual route improvements not listed in STA Moving Forward in conjunction with ongoing scheduling adjustments as provided for in the board-adopted 2016 Transit Development Plan.
