August Service Change - August 28, 2022
New Routes, More Service, Better Access
Spokane Transit schedules service changes three times a year in order to keep the region’s transit system as convenient, accessible and efficient as possible.
These changes generally occur in January, May, and September, however in 2022, the third change occured on August 28.
The August service change is the most extensive package of service enhancements in a decade.
The changes provide better service in Northeast Spokane, service on both sides of I-90 between Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake, and expanded service on select routes. These changes deliver on many promises made in STA’s 10 year plan, STA Moving Forward (frequency and routing improvements for Hillyard, West Central, and Northeast Spokane), implements additional near-term improvements (service to Amazon Facility off Barker Road), and responds to public requests for transit enhancements throughout the region.
New Plaza Bay Numbers
Additionally, the zones at the STA Plaza are being re-named in order to allow for growth of the transit system and to make it easier for riders to navigate the future expansion. The map here shows the newly numbered bays, formerly zones, and what routes will be relocating or are newly added to the system.

New Schedule Color System
STA schedules will no longer change color for every service change in an effort to both reduce waste and communicate more effectively.
Going forward, the schedule color will instead be used to indicate the type of route:
Red = frequent routes
Blue = basic
Pink = express
Green = downtown shuttles
By only replacing the schedules that have changes, instead of replacing all schedules in a new color three times a year, STA can reduce the number of extra schedules that have to be recycled at the beginning of service change.
This new color system is also the first step in a series of improvements to create better wayfinding and route identification for riders. Bus stop signs, system maps, and other wayfinding signage will begin to share the same color system and other design elements to make it easier for riders to navigate the system. New elements will continue to be incorporated over time, with most changes being implemented by the launch of City Line in 2023.
