City Line Project
Spokane’s first Bus Rapid Transit line
The concept of City Line has was discussed, evaluated and planned for by community partners for over 15 years before the project was funded.
City Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service has been customized for the needs of Spokane, reflecting cost-effectiveness and flexibility. It will provide earlier and later service seven days a week – making it a viable transit option in the busiest commercial corridors, especially for commuters.
Construction Updates
City Line Construction Update: March 29, 2023
STA currently has six construction obstructions to report for March 24 – March 31, 2023.
STATION 1 – Southbound travel on South Cannon Street in Browne’s Addition will be shifted to the east between West 3rd Avenue and West 4th Avenue. Traffic will still be able to use the street in both directions and the sidewalk will remain open. Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place. Work is scheduled to start on 03/20.
STATION 2A – Northbound travel on South Spruce Street in Browne’s Addition will be shifted to the west between West 3rd Avenue and West 2nd Avenue and parking will be temporarily removed on the west side of South Spruce Street. Traffic will be able to use the street in both directions and the sidewalk will remain open. Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place. Work is scheduled to start on 03/20.
STATION 2B – Eastbound travel on West 2nd Avenue in Browne’s Addition will be shifted to the north between South Spruce Street and South Hemlock Street and parking will be temporarily removed on the north side of West 2nd Avenue. Traffic will be able to use the street in both directions and the sidewalk will remain open. Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place. Work is scheduled to start on 03/20.
STATION 3 – Eastbound and westbound travel on West Pacific Avenue in Browne’s Addition will be shifted to the north and south between South Spruce Street and South Hemlock Street and parking will be temporarily removed on the north and south sides of West Pacific Avenue. Traffic will be able to use the street in both directions and the sidewalk will remain open. Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place. Work is scheduled to start on 03/20.
STATION 5 – Eastbound and westbound travel on West Pacific Avenue in Browne’s Addition will be shifted to the north and south between South Oak Street and South Maple Street and parking will be temporarily removed on the north and south sides of West Pacific Avenue. Traffic will be able to use the street in both directions and the sidewalk will remain open. Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place. Work is scheduled to start on 03/20.
MAIN AVENUE CONSTRUCTION – Construction on West Main Avenue between North Browne Street and North Division Street will reduce West Main Avenue to one eastbound lane on the north side of the street and will temporarily impact parking on this block. Traffic and pedestrian signage will be in place. Work is scheduled to start on 04/03 and be completed by 04/07.

Outreach
Spokane Transit held several outreach events about City Line throughout the planning process.
This included gathering feedback at in-person open houses, virtual events, online surveys, and more.

Construction Communications
Construction updates were communicated regularly throughout the City Line project. Outreach was made to the public including community members and neighborhoods most affected.
Phase I Construction focused on groundwork — platform construction, power and data connections, and road improvements.
Phase II Construction included enhanced amenities installation including shelters, pedestrian lighting, station markers, and real-time bus departure signs.
