Lead Transit Officer

Job Summary

Position coordinates and supervises daily operation of an assigned security work shift. Monitors and tracks work shift overtime and other costs to stay within budget. Responds to incident involving the safety and security of STA property, personnel, and the riding public. Performance is reviewed for adequacy and effectiveness in exercising professional judgment, the application of technical skills, and compliance with and achievement of results in accordance with STA’s security program objectives. Duties are performed in both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.

Examples of Duties

  • Supervise and schedule the work and activities of agency Transit Officers and contracted security personnel; manage and edit time entry according to scheduled work.
  • Ensure that proper staff training is provided.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and/or provide security services at STA operated facilities and responsible areas within the PTBA.
  • Provide operational oversight of all security processes or systems, including those provided contractually.
  • Within the scope of their authority, issues passenger exclusion orders according to the established procedures as part of the exclusion program.
  • Reviews and approves/denies exclusion orders of other Transit Officers.

Education and Experience

Training and Experience: Two years experience as a Transit Officer with Spokane Transit Authority at the time of promotion, and one additional year of security experience preferred.

License Must have valid driver’s license from the state of residence. Must have, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a limited police commission for the City and the County.
