STA Link

Mobility-on-demand to launch in two service areas this fall!

STA Link is a new mobility-on-demand pilot program designed to make transit easier to access in areas that are not easily served by regular bus routes. Instead of fixed routes or schedules, STA Link will provide on-demand shared rides that can be booked in real time or in advance though mobile app, website, or phone. The service will provide curbside pickup for connections to STA’s broader bus network, as well as curb-to-curb trips within designated service areas. The first STA Link pilots are planned for Latah Valley and north Spokane Valley this fall.

Pilot service areas

STA Link will launch first in two pilot service zones: Latah Valley and north Spokane Valley. These areas were selected because they include neighborhoods where traditional fixed-route bus service can be difficult to provide because of geography, street networks, or other infrastructure constraints.
 
Additional STA Link pilot zones are planned for the future, including portions of Liberty Lake, the West Plains, and Northeast Spokane, including Mead. STA will use the pilot program to better understand how mobility-on-demand service can support the region’s long-term transit network, and expand transit coverage to areas underserved by regular bus service.

STA Link vehicles

STA Link vehicles will provide shared rides for small groups of riders traveling within designated pilot zones. Riders may be matched with other passengers heading in a similar direction, helping STA provide flexible service while connecting more people to transit. STA Link will also include an accessible service option for individuals with disabilities or seniors who need extra assistance because of mobility issues.

More information about STA Link will be available before service begins, including how to book a ride, where the service will operate, hours of service, fares, and details about using STA Link to connect with buses. STA Link is part of Connect 2035, STA’s 10-year strategic plan, and will help STA test new ways to improve mobility access across the region. Performance data from the pilot program will help guide future decisions about whether and how mobility-on-demand service could become part of STA’s long-range service model.
